Although Timecop has some sci-fi elements, it is primarily an action movie starring a martial artist. It is not meant to be a brilliant display of physics or time travel (like Interstellar, for instance). Backwards time travel arguably isn't even possible (which is what I believe), but plenty of movies and series have used this as a plot device. So for those who do not overthink it, Timecop offers excellent action sequences and solid acting performances. Jean-Claude Van Damme and Mia Sara had great chemistry and both did very well in their respective roles, and Van Damme was even able to inject some memorable comedic moments into the film. Ron Silver was a bit over-the-top at times, but his performance as a bad guy was decent enough. For those reasons and others, Timecop is one of my favorite Van Damme films, tied with Lionheart.
