The reason that Laura changes is explained by Om Puri's character Dr Vijay Alezais. During Will Randall's conversation with him he says something like (I forget the exact wording)
"Not all who who are bitten change, and not all who change need to be bitten. Sometimes the spirit of the wolf within them is enough"
That line is in the movie for one purpose: to explain Laura's transformation at the end.
"Not all who who are bitten change, and not all who change need to be bitten.
Sometimes the spirit of the wolf within them is enough"
I agree with that, it makes the most sense.

This is not a dispute about the last reply. I was just wondering why when Laura was around those horses they never were afraid of her. Even in the early part of his transformation Will bothered these animals.
I think it made an interesting ending to the movie anyway.

Your right, nothing in movie gives any hint that Laura was the wolf that bit Will.
However, does anyone have any real answer as to why Laura was changed?
There is no indication in the movie that Laura was ever bitten. My only thought was that maybe it was because her and Will made love, maybe?
I never heard of any legends concerning Werewolves ever had anyone changing because of making love to a Werewolve.

I don't think she is scared of him really being a wolf, she was scared when it appeared as if he really was the one who killed his wife. So she could still have been the original wolf, and just got scared because she thought Jack might be evil. When she saw Spader in the police station though, she immediately seemed to recognize he was a wolf, which is odd. And as soon as she knew there was another wolf, she knew it was that wolf who killed Jack's wife. So her actions could still be explained, but there are still plenty of gaps in the theory. Like why horses were not scared of her. Why she was so incredulous of Jack's powers. And on and on.

A post of mine from a similar thread:
Interesting theory,
It has points to support it but an equal or more points to debunk it.
The doctor says not EVERYBODY changes. The doctor says sometimes the wolf can be kept at bay. The doctor says passion can transform people into wolves. The doctor says he had never seen one as strong as Will.
In support of the theory, Laura can be a wolf, and just a wolf in control. Not being forced to transform. Based off the doctors description, Will is such a strong wolf spirit. He cannot keep his possession in the grip of his choice.
Laura could be a wolf that has grip, that controls her analog.
In debunking Laura is fearful of Will. Once SHE starts to believe he is indeed a wolf, her attitudes change namely for fear and lack of belief.
From a script and film-making standpoint EVERYONE is/can be wolf.. it depends of the spirit, passion, and will of the individual. Therefore, Laura was herself always a wolf, though it wasn't until she met Will that the transformation occurred.
Confound your lousy toll.. TROLL!

The old Indian man explained this in the film.Nobody bit Laura Alden. Dr. Vijay Alezais says "sometimes the passion of the wolf is enough." Meaning Will Randall's passion for Laura Alden was enough to change her.
-Jane
From WOLF'S FAQ:
Was Laura a wolf?
At the end of the movie, Laura was clearly becoming a wolf herself although she is never shown being specifically bitten. Some have suggested that she was bitten by either Stewart (when he tried to rape her) or by Will (when they had sex) or even that having sex with Will transferred the demon wolf to her via their shared fluids. It is also possible that Laura was one of those exceptional persons who already possessed the wolf analog and whose passion was strong enough to bring it out without being bitten at all (as described by Dr Alezais earlier in the movie).
