I'm finally catching this show belatedly on syndication, and am warming up to it! It's not like it's the greatest show ever, but it certainly has its merits: I like the rapport between Drew and his ordinary friends for one, but namelyI love Drew's antagonistic sparring with his "nemesis" Mimi.
I looooove her! I'm not an overweight white woman at all, but I actually relate to her: Dontcha ever just wanna rip on everyone you know the way she does with Drew? I love how she greets him with: "Hey, Pig."
It's just so liberating to watch a straight-up antagonistic person like that. LOL. Seriously.

Yes, that's where I'm catching the show: Laff TV. Channel 7-3, if you're an archaic like me with no cable in Southern California.

Yeah, it's not about being PC. Mimi's behaviour is what you call antisocial and abusive. The only reason it is funny or even tolerated is because it's a sitcom. The behaviour does not promote freedom, it stifles it.
And it's kind of funny that Anti-PC is being used to defend Mimi, who's only around because she did that fake PC harassment thing.

I saw a political cartoon right after that stupidity. The newscaster was reading a story about a dozen deaths of young, black men in Chicago over the weekend. The second panel he said, "Be on the look out for the Confederate flag."

I'm not PC. Never have been; never will be.
That doesn't mean that I go out of my way to say such things to people like that, but I also won't tolerate their BS unless it benefits me in some way. I'm actually much more likely to just remove myself from those situations in which I encounter those people than I am to do anything else.

Dontcha ever just wanna rip on everyone you know the way she does with Drew?
No. Because she's a c&nt. She's the typical fat, bossy, b!tchy, fugly woman who got her way because mommy & daddy thought of her as a princess / didn't want to say "No" to her because they didn't want to put up with her temper tantrums.
I've known a few women like that, and they should just about be shot in the head and dumped in a pile - especially when they end up raising their children to be the same way.
With that being said, I tip my hat to Kathy Kinney. ANYONE who does such a good job in creating a character who is so vile and evokes such emotions (Larry Hagmann as JR Ewing is another one who comes to mind) has really done a good job with their craft.
Interesting side note. Behind the scenes, both Larry Hagman and Kathy Kinney were known to be super nice people. Same thing with Anne Ramsey (Throw Momma from the Train). It is almost like the more despicable character they play on the screen the nicer they are in real life.

This show is so boring, with the exception of her. I'm watching all the reruns in syndication, and the rest of the cast is quite dull by comparison. They're not bad, but they're not good enough to hold my attention either.

Toward the end of the show's run, he marries Mimi, which forced Drew and Mimi to get along. So a lot of the humor went into the toilet.

Yeah, his brother didn't add much to the show, but it's not like he's frequently showcased.
I do, however, love how (the brother's) relationship with Mimi only adds to Mimi's eccentricity

While I don't agree about her attitude, especially it being liberating, I do agree that she was an awesome addition to the show. Had Drew and the producers not added her after the pilot, I doubt the series would have been nearly as popular.
