That concept fits in with the British shows "Black Adder" and "The Young Ones". I could never get into The Young Ones because everyone on there is a freak. But Black Adder I could relate to because Rowan Atkinson is the sane one reacting to the weirdos around him.

Right. To clarify: I don't hate Oswald or Lewis they just don't stand out enough, you know? In spite of their "weirdness". They just lack a certain dynamism that other more successful sitcom side characters possess. Like I said, I tried liking them, but I literally don't even care what stories they are in or what they say on screen.
It's the Mimi and Mr. Wick show for me lol. Mrs. Louder is funny too. And to acknowledge your earlier message: Yes, I know there has to be one "straight man" character for the others to bounce off of. The main protagonist (in this case Drew) always serves that function.

To each their own. IMO, the show would have been nothing without them.

Nevertheless, Oswald and Lewis were still dead weight to me.

Yeah, I can't see where Lewis and Oswald were eccentric at all.
You do realize that there has to be some kind of "grounded" person on a show, right? Without a more grounded Drew, it is all a bunch of dysfunctional freaks with no real jokes to work off of.

Well, him and Mimi.
The only two interesting characters on the show, because they are eccentric. I tried liking Drew and his friends, but they're unremarkable at best.

Craig has stated more than once that the reason for the cliche English accent was kind of a sly putdown of the many English actors who have done truly terrible Scottish accents. That's why his English accent is so overdone

I have to say that Craig being written as English rather than Scottish has not worked for me in his first episode. Craig does have a very good speaking voice and his overemphasizing the WW2 perceived officer class accent may not work for UK viewers. If of course I am wrong then apologies. Scottish people can speak oxford dictionary English perhaps better than some [many] actual English people.
I enjoy Drews show for the speed of the jokes and have always enjoyed a two person swapping of insults as with 'bite me'. It does seem non PC but that is the main part of the show.

Ferguson coming on made the office scenes 100x better too. The first season with the unseen (until the end) Mr. Bell just felt incomplete. Ferguson was hilarious in the show (and on Late Night) and I hope that once he leaves Late Night that he gets another similar role to his role on Drew Carey.

You can really feel his absence in the last 2 seasons, moreso than Kate's. Although to be fair, she was replaced and he wasn't.

Amen to that. I feel the same way about John Goodman on Roseanne.
