I've never been a Neil Young fan and I guess I'm still not, aside from this particular album which I happen to think is pretty god damn groovy. My one thought when I saw the movie way back when was "I have got to get a copy of this soundtrack" and although I had to special order it from my podunk music store and it took friggin forever I did finally aquire it and listened to it at great length. And I'm still listening to it nearly 20 years later.
It's awesome. Who's with me?
Think it sucks? Fine, tell me why but be aware I am going to sneer at you as you do.
If you're just here to troll then get bent and please don't crap up my thread with your mewling because nobody cares. And you have to do as I said because I said please.

Yeah man. I listened to this album a few times and felt I was swept on a freakin journey. Got the LP the next day for 120euro. Worth every cent in my opinion.

Neil Young's work on this movie is beep amazing. It's worth watching for that alone.

Never been a fan of Neil Young, but this has to be one of the most unique soundtracks out there. The funny thing is, first I bought the cassette (mind you, it was ca. 1996) - simply because I was intrigued by the cover - and then watched the movie. It blew my mind and I still consider it one of the top three movies I've ever seen, currently holding number one.
When I switched to CDs, I sold the cassette on Discogs for 20 bucks as it turned out to be a precious collector's item. So check your drawers and cases - you never know what treasure you might find there.

The soundtrack was excellent and I'm definitely gonna track it down, even though I've never had any of Neil Young's works despite being very familiar with his existence and general contributions to the music scene. As for the person who said the guitar riffs drowned out the dialogue, that literally did not happen for me at all. I watched the Blu-ray release so maybe the audio was mixed/mastered differently, but generally you must've listened to it on a subpar setup if that were the case.

I love it. I'm a Neil Young fan, but can't say I love or have even heard his whole massive catalog, but have my favorites. I felt the music was perfect for the film, unique to movies and haunting/evocative.

I found the soundtrack annoying. Neil Young never was a great guitarist.

I agree. I could have put up with the strained, dis-harmonic chords, if only the soundtrack were not amped up to a level that overpowered the dialogue.
I had to keep making a choice of either putting up with the screeching guitar, or not being able to make out Johnny Depp's lines. Not a good thing.

This is the most misplaced use of the word 'groovy' I have ever encountered.
The nearly drone-like guitar playing is mostly arrhythmic, terribly hectic and stretched out to the irritating.
U could hardly conceive of anything less groovy.
Now go on, sneer at the infinite.
Who cares?
