In many monster movie sequels, the audience has certain expectations about the monsters. For example, one well-known idea is where the monster gets bigger, like the Alien Queen in Aliens. But in Tremors 2, instead of finding a massive "Queen Graboid," the audience is treated to Shriekers, a monster that actually becomes strikingly smaller than the first monster. As far as I have seen, this is a unique idea among monster movie sequels, a superb piece of film writing.

Yep, didja notice too that in sharp contrast to most 80s/90s entertainment dealing with supernatural or sci-fi monsters, everybody in the sequels BELIEVES in graboids!? No shady government cover up, no laughing disbelief and the heroes going through therapy to learn it didn't happennope, it's an embraced part of life 😄
The filmmakers were not afraid to diverge from reality in an entertaining way, just to be different. Good for them.
