I love this movie and can't get enough of it. However one thing I never got was how was enola and Helen sent away from dry land. Meaning I'm sure the girls parents were sick and knew they were dying. So they tattooed the map of dry landBut how were they separatedsince Helen never saw dry land..
Say is there an extended version of WW where they have the extended scenes like when Ebola and Helen find the plack of mt Everest as they watch the mariner sail off to sea. I read there was a 4 hour special on tv years ago of WW with all the scenes completing the whole story. So please is there an extended dvd version? Thanks

@ danielumpkin~ its not "specifically stated" however its implied that her parents tattooed her as they show the tattoo equipment in the hut where her parents skeletal remains are found.
@sidekickin~ agreed, enola is the only one from Dryland, helen not included. thus her semordnilap name "alone" + that she is a child, thus meaning all those that were old enough to navigate back to Dryland would have perished.

Helen and Enola did not arrive together. Enola is the only one from dry land.

is it specifically stated that her parents gave her the tattoo? i mean that would make sense but everyone just talks about how the have to decipher the tattoo. The Deacon never says "we need to find whoever did this! they know how to get to dry land!" etc. I just found it odd that no one looks for the tattoo artist or asks how she got it

There was a 2-disc DVD released back in 2008 that contained the theatrical version and the extended version that was shown on TV (http://www.amazon.com/Waterworld-2-Disc-Extended-Kevin-Costner/dp/B001F12IZS/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1461010672&sr=1-1&keywords=waterworld+extended+edition). The extended version is about three hours, though with commercial breaks, it would have been four hours. This is the only extended version that has been officially released, although according to Wikipedia and some other discussion threads on this board, there are some fan-made extended editions on the internet.
