Good calls, all, AliG! Ray was the first one that came to my mind, even though we've watched Bambi 3 times in the last month. You're probably right on the Pixar call (but I'm calling it a safe-ish bet Syndrome's not coming back), although Dreamworks is too big an umbrella for me to know.

Alright, I'll just name the three that come up right now. There are more, though (and spoilers ahead, obviously).
Bambi: Bambi's mother.
The Lion King: Mufasa.
The Princess and the Frog: Ray.
And even people die, like Shan Yu (Mulan).
But I believe I've never seen a character die in any Pixar or Dreamworks movies.

I beg to differ, fergie: the first answer was plenty funny! He got the question, and was just ribbing you. No need to get testy.
Anyway, I don't get any of the above posters having problems with anyone/thing getting killed in a horror movie: I mean, why are you watching this, anyway? It's a HORROR movie, things tend to die in horror movies. Dogs, people, leprechauns, stone giants, whatever, they're all just ticks on the body count. If you don't want to see things die, go watch a Disney movie, for cryin' out loud! Animals do all sorts of crap and meet all sorts of people in those and never die (although I hope you were all appropriately mortified by Cruella De Vil's plans for those pups!).
I don't mean to be as abrasive as I sound, I'm just utterly stunned to find such a post on a horror movie's board!

Here is this thing about animals in horror movies: We usually will never see them in other movies. When people die in horror movies we know the actor that played the role and see them in other movies so we know for sure that they didn't die. The dog in this segment was a golden retriever called "Odin". He is credited on imdb as "Otin" but this movie is his only credit and there are tons of golden retrievers, so without this warning how would we not know that the dog wasn't hurt? We don't have a warning that no people were killed in this film but we don't need it because we know that the actors were alive after this movie came out. This is why I think many people are more concerned with animals dying in horror movies than people.

I watched this movie on On Demand today and at the end of the credits it says that it was filmed under the watch of the ASPCA (aka no animals harmed) and that "prosthetic animals" were used in some scenes (the dog part). I still don't like it when animals are hurt in movies though.

The dogs are usually there protecting the family and then get killed, so it's like they died for another, whioch makes it sad. And they have a slimmer chance of survival if someone plans on killing them. And they are so cute and cuddly. They make that wimpering sound when they die, and the person that does it is always evil. You don't just kill the family dog for no reason, you have to be evil.
Now if it is a zombie dog, or a dog with rabies, then we aren't supposed to feel bad. We somwhat feel bad if it is an aggressive dog because it has been abused (raised poorly.)
I'd rather a grown man die in a movie, then a dog. Poor doggy.
I hate how IMDb signatures look like part of the post.
