I actually think 5 is the best one after the original, but this one is really good as well.
If I had to rank the series, it would be like this:

Now that I've seen all the sequels, I still think Part IV: The Gathering is the best of all the sequels, followed closely by Part VII.
I'd rate them in this order (from best to worst, imo):
CotC (1984)
CotC IV: The Gathering (1996)
CotC VII: Revelation (2001)
CotC V: Fields of Terror (1998)
CotC II: The Final Sacrifice (1993)
CotC III: Urban Harvest (1995)
CotC VIII: Genesis (2011)
CotC (2009) remake
CotC VI: Isaac's Return (1999)

I would agree that this is the best of the sequels (the ones I have seen at least).
Out of the first four films (the only ones I have seen), I would place them in this order:
Children of the Corn - easily the best of the series & a great film in general
C.o.t.C. IV - great story & good acting
C.o.t.C. III - pretty good film
C.o.t.C. II - this could've been a better movie, but the acting was horrible

Yeah, I agree. The original stands alone. This one is totally number one of the sequels, though.

Definitely! This would have to be my favorite of the sequels! Nothing can top the original, though, as far as I'm concerned.
