Actually Jociah died by the town burning him alive on a stake and then they threw his bones and ashes into a well. The preachers did fed Jociah quick sliver (aka mercury) and sold his soul to the dark side but it didn't work and Jociah got older and the preachers didn't want him anymore so they cast him aside to die, but he got back at them by slaughtering them in their sleep that's why the townspeople burned him alive and threw his bones in the well so he could not escape but he did.
