It's an interesting theory but I agree with other posters that it's not why he killed her. I actually didn't notice the stutter until reading this thread and then re-watched the beginning to see what you were talking about. She does stutter but I'd seen the movie twice without noticing it. The first time you see her is when she's practicing French, so I always just assumed she was having some difficulty pronouncing it. The directors probably should have cut the French lesson out and just had them having a conversation if they wanted to drive the stutter point home.
What doesn't make sense to me is how he knew she stuttered. Once you realize she stutters, it's clear why he said 'sss sorry' the way he did. Also adds to the stepfather's reaction - he was not only gloating, he was mocking their daughter. But how did he know she stuttered? In the murder scene, he starts choking her as soon as she opens the door and doesn't give her time to do anything but scream.
I know it says they go to the same market, but when he's arrested, she doesn't recognize him.

There, that's the usual "motivation" for 99% of serial killers. They won't know/care who the victim was, either. She was there, and that was enough. The serial killer in this movie is actually a very realistic character.

Its a thought, but i doubt it. As others said, I dont think her well off family would have shopped at his seedy grocery store. Second, he was first driven by rape, not murder. If he had a problem with her stutter, his first thoughts would not have been of a sexual nature. I think he was just a sick freak we saw her one day, and decided to rape her. Then he covers up the rape by killing her.

In the end he explains it could of been anyone, it was not personal. I think he just picked her cause he was into her sexually, and had the chance. What he did in the court room was just adding salt and lemon juice to the open wound.

I was aware of her speech impedement though very slim, but I just think basically he killed her so she was unable to identify him, same goes for the Hispanic woman.

I wonder if it's because when you are a kid and you get into an argument with another kids, you shake and go, I'm SOOOOO SCARED. I think he was mocking them or taunting them. Knowing that he bested them and got away with it. He knew that they knew he was guilty and he was harrassing them about the fact.
Kiefer Sutherland is a verstile actor that does a fine job of making you hate him. I was really wanting him dead at the end of the movie, which is a sign that he did a great job.

You did notice a stutter at points, but it wasn't an extremely noticeable one. If you weren't paying attention, you might have missed it.

I'm not going to insult you, but it's silly to try to come up with reasoning and justifications for his crime. Like he told her at the end, it could have been anybody. Seeing that you despise the character so much, that's good. It proves the actor did his job well.

The man is a SOCIOPATH. He has no conscience, his victims are not people to him and there is nothing personal about why he does what he does. He does it because he gets a sick twisted joy from inflicting from pain on others. Julie and the hispanic woman were not people to him. Just like his many other past victims, they were just two more unsuspecting females he took advantage of because he's a sick sadistic low life who doesn't deserve to live. Why try to make sense of the actions of someone like that? It's not possible, I think this whole thread was started as a sick joke.

I think a lot of you are thinking way too much here, things or meanings don't always have to be so obtuse. Doob was a sick and twisted man, who used his job to gain access into peoples homes without drawing attention (he is a delivery man) and then rapes them. The victims obviously see his face and know where he works, which is why he kills them afterwards. Why leave someone alive when they know who you are, and where you work?

The really saddening fact is that Julie and The Hispanic Lady were probably not even the only victims of his. My guess is that Doob had been doing this for years, and had been eluding the authorities that whole time.
