My guess is that he only married her for the money seeing how rich her father is.
And the disconnection he shows his son. Probably knocked her up because she wanted a kid or an accidental conception.
If there was any love, then he wouldn't have had her kidnapped.
Humans are not the only species on earth.

The character Jerry is incapable of loving anyone. He is only interested in his own self. Since it is fiction and their backstory isn't addressed he could have married Jean for any of a number of reasons and we can never know.
