robert de niro is amazing in this film. every time he's on screen you can't take your eyes off of him. he has magnetism, screen presence, and charisma. he steals every scene he's in. he gives a very nuanced, moving, realistic performance.
he's pretty much the best actor of all time. he's always great no matter what he's in.

except from minnie driver and jason patric who both give bad performances. i hate to say that about jason because i love him because of the lost boys and Frankenstein unbound but they both give such under low key performances that they are inadequate, weak, and unaffecting.
