This movie is a perfect base for a bible study.
In the book Finding God in the Movies; 33 Films of Reel Faith by Robert K. Johnston & Catherine M. Barsotti you can find a complete chapter dedicated to this movie!

I think it would be perfect as a movie to teach religious people acceptance and compasion and respect for those who are different. Something BADLY needed in a lot of religions.

Yes it is a good movie for workshops that deal with teaching theology through film. Another really good book on this topic is "How movies helped save my Soul" I don't have it right here in front of me so I'm not sure of the author but this book will enable you to see movies like you never have before.
