Do you think they were really friends?
Sometimes it's so uncomfortable watching them interact. Sandi would be like: "Gee, Quinn" and you knew it was going to be some comment Sandi would make trying to one-up Quinn. It was like she was always competing with Quinn. And then Quinn would be like: "Oh, SandiWhat I meant was" Like she always had to rephrase what she said just to please Sandi. Sometimes I just wanted to be able to shake Quinn and be like: "She's not really your friend!"
But then in "Fat Like Me" it's Quinn who sticks by Sandi's side. She doesn't want to betray her by taking her place as Fashion Club president and helps her lose the weight so Sandi can get back into the club. The part when they both cry and hug each other is so sweet and I think that they truly are friends. What do you think?

They were frenemies for sure.
Quinn only helped Sandi in 'Fat Like Me' because her own position in the Fashion Club depended on Sandi coming back. Sandi did some fast talking and guilted her into quitting. If you notice the scene, Quinn was definately about to take on the role as President but Sandi bowls her over and thanks her for quitting too.
If they were real friends at all, it was only later and only sometimes.
You're wondering what is a place like me doing in a girl like this.

I know what you mean sometimes it seems like a real friendship and other times it more like Sandi is jealous of Quinn and Quinn maybe is just tolerant of here even to the point of helping her. That goes along with Quinn's desire to fit in and be popular. When Quinn doesn't let Sandi get to her I feel she's handling Sandi in a way that things don't get out of hand.Later in the series Quinn asserts herself more and no longer hides that she and Daria are sisters.Quinn was more likable and Sandi may have feared she could easily be replaced as a leader with the Stacy and Tiffany.
