<p dir="auto">I thought it was excellent, but I wouldn't quite call it the best of 1997.  L.A. Confidential takes top honors in that regard.  And while Titanic doesn't really quite hold up for me like it used to, I won't deny that it does deliver a heck of an experience.</p>

<p dir="auto">It conveyed a marvelous sense of presence in the past. Others can quarrel about the film's historical inaccuracies and misrepresentations. As a work of art and entertainment, it was genuinely transporting.</p>
