This made me wonder, how come we never see this intruder getting his comeuppance like Martha?

Martha finessed the situation from the start, just like Old Alice said, she's good at doing it all without any help from others. She poked holes in the diaphragm to get Helen pregnant, which made them get married, she got the farmer to scare Helen into moving her and Jackson back to Kilronan. I don't think the farmer was ever going to rape her, I think Martha hired him to put a scare into her, but I don't think she told him that Helen was pregnant. When she whispers that she's pregnant, he had a look of shock on his face and then just finished the job that he was hired to do. Attack her/scare her.

Yea he was definitely surprised! I wonder if she hadn't said that, would he have actually raped her? Do you think the mother would've ordered him that far or cared if he did that?

agreed. after she told him she was pregnant he still cut her stomach to just show her that he didnt care? && ensure that she didnt feel safe there.
but i also thought when she said that he looked suprised.. anyone else see this?

i think she sent him not to kill her or make her lose the baby mostly to fear her from newyork city so they go and live with her in the ranch..

well that intruder was Richard Lineback / the farmer with the chickens at the beginning of the movie - and he seemed a bit unstable/crazy. Maybe he just did it because he was nuts lol
