I think it's a cool scene that kind of steals the show.
In the middle of all that extreme masochistic training mess, time stops for a second and she shows up to examine the soldiers/candidates.
Surreal in a way as some kind of "angel in white", an aristocratic-like highly capable and professional medical expert among the rookies and idiots.
Her character is minor, but very well written one IMHO.

Actually the instructors themselves checked on the trainees especially after an incident like that big metal drum rolling over them.
They were some awfully tough instructors but they had no interest in anyone dying on them.

I agree. It's one of my favorite parts in the film. Very nicely played and, as you describe, disorienting in the midst of all that intensity.
