I am by no means a fan of romance films, but for some reason this movie draws me in like no other. It posesses a certain charm I just can't place. When visitors see this on my shelf I always get a laugh or a sneer from my browsing friend, but you can probably bet they have never sat down and gave this one a chance or at least that is the defense I use. =
]
Does anyone else have movies on their shelf that are outside of their normal taste or films that others generally question or tease you for having? (besides childhood favorites because thats a given)
Just a few of mine (im sure there are some i'm leaving out, so there will be more to come):
Hope Floats
Paradise
Bring It On
Bubble Boy
Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow
Bad Boys 2
Btw, my general tastes mostly fall into Quirky Independent, Horror, High Drama, 80's, and usually those of critical acclaim.

I love several if the movies written here, but I'd like to add one. Give it a watchyou'll either love it or hate it.
"Get Over It" Terrible acting, Kirsten Dunst sings a lovely song, and there are some really funny moments. The song at the end is great, guaranteed to have you singing along.

Romantic comedies are probably lowest on my list of favorite genres, but I LOVE this movie. Some of my other favorites that I would never admit to IRL:
Mad Love (with Drew Barrymore)
Bring it On
Crazy Beautiful
Steel Magnolias
Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion
Never Been Kissed
Where the Heart Is
Just about any rom-com from the 80's (Valley Girl, Some Kind of Wonderful, Sixteen Candles, etc)
Some hurt, some love, some shout. I fought the world and I lost that bout.
~ Blue October

I was told my tastes are 'square' (some friend!!) when I said I liked 'Christy' the short-lived series starring Kellie Martin and Tyne Daly, I also love Road To Avonlea, Anne of Green Gables but I also love heist films, lawyer movies, The Bourne trilogy and the Mission Impossible films.
One movie I find was totally underrated was Excess Baggage. It was funny and had some smart lines in it.

All About Steve - thought Bullock was pretty adorable
Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance - Nic Cage is one of my favorite actors, which is another 'embarrassed to admit' revelation
The 13th Warrior

i love this thread because it's so true. I don't get ridiculed for loving this film is because I hide my love of it from the entire world. This movie is absolutely the biggest guilty pleasure in my life. I very VERY rarely watch romantic comediesespecially with a country twang such as this, but I LOVE this movie.

my general taste is usually critical acclaimed movies also.
certain movies may have a simple premise but they are actually good movies.
i might be however ridiculed for loving:
Hope Floats
Bring It On
Mean Girls
The Blair Witch Project

I enjoy this movie, as well. It's by no means, perfect, but it is one of those feel good kind of movies that I don't mind watching on a rainy day. I also like that movie with Ellen Degeneres called, Mr. Wrong. In my opinion, Mr. Wrong is a very funny movie, with memorable characters and situations. I happened to read some reviews of it recently, and a lot of people gave it bad reviews, saying how awful it was, and they stopped watching it after a few minutes into the movie. But I find it hilarious. I also like that movie, Monster Man, which is a horror comedy/parody, and it is funny as all get out. I happened to catch it one night on SyFy. But if you read the message board for it, a lot of people criticize it.
"There is no world without Verona walls." Shakespeare

I like this film yet I DETEST romance and romantic comedies. Scarface, Godfather, and Platoon are my kind of films.
Analysis: I think Sandra has real charm even when given a crappy script- and I am a sucker for atmospheric cinematography.

We all have guilty pleasures; movies, TV shows, songs, groups, food. Mine are:
Breakin' and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo (So wanted to dance like Shrimp)
The Cheech and Chong movies (memories of my misspent youth)
Judges Mathis and Judy (love it when they chew someone out)
"My Ding-a-ling" by Chuck Berry and "Disco Duck" by Rick Dees & his Band of Idiots
(just because they're silly)
The Sylvers and DeBarge (the teeth, the hair)
Slim Jims and Pixie Stix (hey, no one's gonna live forever)

I have Hope Floats AND Swept Away!
I never understood the riducule dumped on Swept Away, when Madonna is leaving in the helicopter and he throws the ring I'm a teary mess. I refuse to let anyone give me hell for 'Swept Away' unless they have seen the film and if they have seen it I then demand them explain rationally what issue they had with it. It's not a perfect film but that ending rips me up something bad. It's quite tragic.
