The entire screenplay for the movie is made-for-TV, b-grade material at best. I'm surprised that Sandra Bullock would even play in this film. She just have been going through a rough patch of her career at the time.
What really makes me laugh in this movie is the forced, hick accent by Sandra Bullock. I've been to Smithville as well as the surrounding areas before. NOBODY speaks like that except maybe rednecks and white trash.

She had been in a string of flops, culminating in the huge disaster Speed 2, and this, oddly enough, was actually regarded as her comeback at the time because it was a minor hit. It's pretty faded now.

Good movie for a B movie, not as an A movie.
Sandra Bullock is a talented actress that has rarely been any any really good movies.
