The film is also completely fictional. Who would've thought?

The film should have been set in 1947 like the video game "L.A. Noire". The references would have been a lot more appropriate.

Aye, but in the present day we have people fantasising over Carrie Fisher wearing a gold bikini 33 years ago. Even in pre-Internet days, there were actresses such as Ursula Andress best known decades after the event for one iconic moment or outfit or look.
Very true, but what I meant was a contemporary woman would not emulate the look of a star whose own look had just started to get dated by 1953. At that time, women would want to look like Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth Taylor. The year 1946 was too close to 1953 to get nostalgic about. And this wasn't about nostalgia, at least in the story of the film anyway. The writers wanted to capture the feel of the film noir genre by incorporating the names of Hayworth, Lake and Turner in the script but they chose to set the story in 1953, which was a mistake. (Could you imagine a girl in the 1980s sporting the Farrah Fawcett hairstyle? Maybe if she was attending a Back to the 70s disco party!)

And so much ado about Veronica Lake, who was already half forgotten by 1953. Ditto with Rita Hayworth whose career wasn't as busy as it was in the 1940s. Like it would be silly for the girls to emulate a look that was so 1946.
