<p dir="auto">I thought Cromwell was all wrong for Dudley Smith  too old, too scrawny.  Liam Neeson would have been a much darker and more intimidating Smith.</p>

<p dir="auto">I'm sure all of the central performances in L.A. Confidential were submitted for consideration to the Academy  the acting was uniformly terrific in this film. James Cromwell included. But it was a hotly contested year across the board.<br />
