Yes, yes, the Oscars are a complete and utter joke nowadays, but there was a time when they actually mattered.
And I still can't freakin' believe that LOLITA was not nominated for the following: Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Production Design/Costumes and Best Actor - Jeremy Irons.
It's one of the most beautifully shot and elegant movies in history. The cinematography Oscar should've been in the bag! And that amazing score by Morricone? No words to describe how powerful and emotional it is.
Alas, nothing. And I get it. The reason for the Oscar snub is all the lame controversy that the movie's story caused in some circles in America and Europe. What a shame! Shame on those who undermined this powerful movie.

The story is magnificent and timeless.
Ironically, it was the story that created all the controversy in the first place. It was always the story. The second some people hear the title "Lolita" and they are immediately turned off. They act all shocked and disturbed.
If some of the same people were able to get over their prejudice maybe they would've seen what we, the fans, have seen: an extremely well-made, elegant and powerful movie that absolutely deserves awards recognition.
Sadly that didn't happen. And scertain people still consider the movie a perverted softcore porn, or something along those lines. And they're wrong.
