So at the beginning of the novel, he is trial for raping and molesting Lolita and killing a man.
So now that you had heard his side of the story, would you still find him guilty or innocent?

Humbert was never charged with any crime toward Lo. He was arrested and charged with the murder of Quilty. And yes, I would find him guilty of murder.

You could use your right to jury nullification however so its still a valid question.

Of course I find him guilty - he
was
guilty. I would hope everyone else would find him guilty too. Regardless of the hapless nature of his adoration for Lolita he broke the law. The fact I actually feel for Humbert and his plight should have no influence on whether or not I would find him guilty in a court of law if I was a juror and if that is what you are asking.

Off topic slightly but I am just catching up with this board and like your responses on certain threads, Saemilin, particularly your reasons for not nurturing/enabling a relationship with that 18 year-old when you were aged 28.
Yes this board as you rightly pointed out, is for the purpose of the later version of Lolita. I have both versions but didn't see the original until much later after the first, which I have to say, is by far the best version in my personal opinion. It carries a profound and more intimate delve into Humbert's psyche I think.

Of course the 1998 version, of which the discourse of this forum is for.
