<p dir="auto">Before the identity of the ripper is revealed, we see him at the dinner table (face not shown) with a trembling hand (symptom of syphilis) and he's pouring some kind of medicine into his wine. After the killer is revealed and the last murder takes place, we can see that the doctor is sufferning from dementia, which is a symptom of advanced syphillis IIRC. If it was just the shaky hand, I would be inclined to believe the doctor's explanation (brain seizure that ended his career as a surgeon). But the dementia part makes me think he has syphilis all along.</p>
