I enjoyed it, but would enjoy it more had it not been called "Godzilla".
There are two big categories of the problems with this.
1: The "character" of Godzilla was so drastically altered from his typical incarnations as to be damn near unrecognizable. For fans, that's bad. Godzilla has a couple of features going for him that have been mainstays of the character. He is relatively immune to most anything we throw at him, and he has atomic breath. This version has neither. It'd be like making a Superman movie where he wears a black suit, no cape, doesn't fly, can be hurt by normal weapons, and is only marginally stronger than normal people. Total departure from the original. A little change is one thing; complete change is another.
2: The casting and acting in this film were just dreadful. Reno is the only one who was worth watching, though with the dialogue the script had, it'd be hard for anyone to do well.
Now, those things said, I still enjoy giving it a watch. Not the worst movie ever made, and some of the Toho films were actually far worse. But the bottom line is, if you're going to make a movie about a well-known character, then make that character fit the expectations of the audience. The 2014 film, for all it's flaws, at least had a Godzilla that looked and behaved like Godzilla should.
Whores will have their trinkets.
