that this is my "guilty pleasure." I have the DVD, I've seen it many times. Whenever I just don't know what to watch I pop in "Notting Hill" just to watch maybe 15 to 20 minutes of it. But I can never stop until it is finished.
The whole tone of the movie, the characters, the situations, the dialog all strike a chord with me.
Make a choice, to take a chance, to make a difference.

a bit like Kim Novak
Or in fact it reflects Elton John's take on Marilyn Monroe via Candle in the Wind, ie the huge mountain in maintaining your own self respect as a "person" once Hollywood has manufactured you as a SuperStar.
Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the
grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name

yes, it really makes you feel Julia IS such a [genuine] person and not just another lousy Hollywood star, a bit like Kim Novak
