It would be nice if the plots of all movies were solved during the movie rather than on message boards.

I had the very same question. Poor story telling that so many of us wonder about it.

I think what a lot of people are missing is that Alonzo clearly took a million from that heist. I know the numbers don't jive to what they were saying but why does it have to be true? Alonzo can say he is taking 250K but why can't he take a million? Forgive me if I misquote" First day on the job and a 4 million dollar bust " You said 5 million
This doesn't mean that Alonzo reported he found 4 million. He may have reported 3 million.
I read some people are saying he had the rest stashed. I don't believe that. He robbed Macy Gray to pay the wise men. Why would he have to do that?

No problem. It's true that Alonzo's money situation is ambiguous. All we really know is that he needed a lot of cash in a hurry. Even the siezure at Rogers's house poses some questions. Did he only need $250k? Did he need $500k and was he was planning on keeping Jake's cut the whole time? Did he keep more for himself than we are shown? One way or the other, we can assume that Alonzo knew the siezure would get him the money he needed.

You are right that it was established early on that Alonzo is a dirty cop, but a specific instance where they showed that hes only 250k short or something like that would have been nice. Just something that stuck with me as I was watching.

You're assuming he was flat broke. This was a dirty cop who was constantly scamming, extorting, and robbing people of money. Between that and his salary, he probably already had a good bit of cash.
