Guys aren't supposed to like romantic movies, lol. I think this is one of the best rom-coms for guys and 'chick flick' worthy.
Don't you think?

I find the movie very visceral and believable. Especially the record store scene in which he's taking about the word "yet" as it pertains to Evil Dead II/Laura sleeping with Ian. That's such an accurate depiction of what it's like when you're over-analyzing every little thing your ex says.

Unlike everyone else in this post, I have to agree with you erykpine. I first watched this film after a painful breakup with a girlfriend that I lived with for 7 years. It was kind painful to watch because of how much it mirrored my own situation, but at the same time kind of cathartic. She didn't leave the guy for which she left me for another two years, so by that time it was too late, but given the same situation as the movie, I would have taken her back.

It's mainly great for guys who love rock music, not for those who want to "work out" relationships. As a female who does NOT want to do the latter, but likes music, this is a great option for me as well. I found the Rob/Laura drama uninteresting but the interaction of Rob and his two "employees" hysterical and well worth watching. So, on that count, plus the music, I'd agree. But women are fooling themselves if they think any movieor even real life are going to make most menor even women, these days, want to agonize over the perils of serious relationships!
Nothing is what it seems. Everything is a test. Rule #1: Don'tgetcaught.

Just thought this is important enough to point out even after so many years:
"Chicks" don't dig having their ex track them down like a bloodhound, call them 10 times in a roll and hang around outside day and night trying to get a look at where they live now. They're not going to think it's cute, they'll think it's threatening and scary.
So if anybody reading this thread thinks this would be a romantic thing to do and your ex would love it - don't, okay? It's called stalking. You'll thank me later for bothering to type out this pro-tip when you're not getting slapped with a restraining order.
The beauty of this movie is that it's not an idealized romantic fantasy for either men or women. In real life people half-ass their relationships. They don't let go even when they should. They get too absorbed in their own petty BS to bother considering other people's feelings. This movie is about the less-than-ideal relationships. The kind that most people have in real life. The ones that don't have happy endings.
The one that really stuck with me was poor Penny from his high school days. It was such a small bit part, but she poured her heart out about how his rejection of her (because she wasn't ready for sex yet) gave her such self-esteem issues that she said okay to sex with the next guy even though she didn't really want to.
All Rob got out of that was "that's right, I rejected her, she never rejected me! Yay, I feel great!" Way to miss the point, dude.

Have to agree with the other post. Not that great for a guy. Chicks will love it because he chases her until she realizes it was a mistake to hook-up with Ray and takes him back. A guy with any sense of self respect would have walked as soon as he was told that she had sex with Ray (Ian). This is just like any other "chick flick" where she finally gets her way and he goes along with it. As soon as she told him that she had sex with Ray (Ian), that should have ended it right there for him. He then could have moved on and found happiness with someone else (much hotter just to piss her off) and left her wondering if she had made a mistake by dumping him. A guy rom-com would have had her chasing him after realizing her mistake in dumping him and desperately trying to win him back. He would tell her she had her chance but she blew it. He would then meet the girl of his dreams and live happily ever after. Better yet if he had actually kicked Ray's ass when he came into his store, accuse her of sending him and then cut off all contact with her. Afterwards, trying as she might to win him back, he tells her "no thanks" and moves on with his life. Yeah, chicks would hate it but I think guys would relate and really like it.
