I also read about " a Serbian film " and " August underground "…..
I cant believe people actually enjoy watching movies like those.

Yes, Cannibal Holocaust had a message. My problem with it is that it's trying very hard to hit you over the head with that message, and it thinks it's being subtle, but dear god is it not subtle. It's preachy as ****, and it kind of just feels like they wanted their video-nasties movie to have more "depth", so they put in actual lines of dialogue like "who are the real cannibals?".
It's an eye-roll moment, and praising the film's message would be like praising a movie that depicts nothing but rape, but then at the end has someone say "but rape is bad, mkay?".
The message is fine, but the delivery of the message is laughable.

If you think that Cannibal Holocaust is simply "unnecessary violence and gore", you really missed the whole point of the film.

There was a lot of hype about Audition back in the day, and I ended up ordering a VHS copy from Ebay in 2001. When I sat down to watch it, I remember thinking, IS THAT IT? By no means do I find it a bad movie, but to me it was never the disturbing gut-punch so many others seem to think it is. Maybe the incessant hype raised my expectations to an unrealistic degree, I don't know. But yeah, I never found it to be one of those types of films you can't wait to spring on an unsuspecting friend.

I do not classify Happiness as a "disturbing" movie. It's confrontational and remarkably frank at times, but not gratuitous. This is a movie that actually has ideas and insight, that is intelligent, and brutally honest in its assessment of our human frailties . . . in other words, its about as far from the banality of the typical Hollywood blockbuster as you can get. This is a very good film, both unique and thought provoking.

"Happiness" is a very, very funny movie, but it is also very sick and depressing. It is downright genius in the way it manages to play with the viewer's emotions while still keeping the same basic tone.

Yes it's the most soul destroying, awful and utterly gross movie - of all time. No other film has ever left me feeling as morally depleted, sick to my stomach and sad to be a part of the human race as this film. How powerful movies are. People portrayed here are too real perhaps. I suppose its hilarious black humor is a curiosity but damn what a jolting story.

I think this movie is disturbing because it forces us to confront extremely uncomfortable, dark situations head on, and thus unsettles us. It also provides little to no clue as to its tone from the very beginning, creating a deeply unsettling atmosphere. Is this a comedy? A satire? A look at how bleak human existence can be? It's a little bit of everything.
I loved it, I laughed a lot, but I also find it to be a disturbing movie.

I wouldn't call it disturbing, just a very dark comedy. I mean, people like that actually exist in the real world, and that's just how it isit's like an insight into the uglier parts of human society. I will say, I feel like it's not as stone-cold realistic as some people say it is, it's definitely a "movie".

I just saw this film. I chose it because I have never seen a Phillip Seymour Hoffman performance that was bad-ever. And he certainly did not disappoint here, although I too found this to be an extremely disturbing film that was horrifying to watch.
If you like disturbing films, this is a good one to pick even though I almost didn't finish it; it was just too gross in some parts. Another hard-to-watch darkly disturbing film is Dogtooth.
