Is it left up to the viewer to decide what his fate is? Do his wife and kids simply leave him, are the police called and he is arrested, does the boys father kill him, does he kill himself, is he doing time in pound-me-in-the-ass prison?

Todd Solondz did make somewhat of a sequel to "Happiness," "Life During Wartime." It is revealed that Bill was indeed locked away for a number of years. However, at the time "Happiness" was released, I believe it was to be inferred that Johnny Grasso's dad made good on his threat to kill Dr. Maplewood. (One can assume that the numerous threats and harassment Bill received as a result of the allegations are what drove Trish to leave him.)
