It was kind of before the era of dominating reality tv, but if we revised it's genre, would this be considered like reality/sci fi?

I guess it's no fakers than the rest of "reality" TV so why not? I wouldn't say it was before "reality" TV, though certainly before it just got completely out of control. We did have "The Real World" & "Road Rules" back then.
