It got bad reviews in an effort to down play just how true to life it was. The less people see this film, the less likely they will believe that $hit like this actually happens in real life. This movie, though not an Academy Award Best Picture nominee, was very entertaining and much of it told a story that the powers-that-be be don't want the average person knowing about. I agree, OP. I like this film a lot. Yes its a bit of a male soap opera, but the actors do rather well, the suspense stays steady, and it has twists & turns.
Good soundtrack also.
What's odd is that while this good film is generally panned, the truly poorly-acted boring fluff

I thought it was pretty good too. A bit iffy on some parts but still pretty good overall. Joshua Jackson was impressive and Leslie Bibb was good too.

it was the first movie, i wanted to leave the cinema while playing. it was so boring and there was no relation between the viewer and the actors. i did not care what happend to them and the whole time i was thinking about what to do after the movie ..and thats always a baaad sign. there is nothing remarkable or quotable about it. i saw it in 2000 i guess and some weeks later i couldnt even tell what it was about.. and today i only remember that it was one of the 3 most money- and timewasting films i saw in a movie theatre, along with fast and furious and the replacement killers..
would stare at a wallpaper for 90 minutes instead of watching again

I liked it as well. Although I really love Joshua and Paul so my opinion is probably biased towards liking it no matter how bad the movie might be. (Although I don't think it is bad in any waymaybe just conventional.)

It was really good, and so were the other two.

wowi agree. i was suprised that it got such bad reviews. i found it pretty enjoyable. it's not academy award winning or anything, but it captured my attention and kept it. i think it's highly underrated.
