I think we're all mostly in agreeance that this is a good move by the BBC. Kermode is so much more passionate and knowledgeable about his films.

Just watched a Culture Show Special, "The Kermodes" where he does his own Oscars. Just a slight glimpse at how brilliant FILM could have been.
Whoever made the decisions to not get Kermode, and get Winkleman should be shown where the nearest brick wall is, then shot.
I find that ducks opinion of me is very much influenced over whether or not i have bread.

I hope he takes over too.I'm sure it's up to himself if he wants the job.He should have been offered the job back when Norman quit.
Thank you for flying Air Pandora.
Leaving! Leaving on a midnight train to Georgia

Because that's all he gives - no insight, no understanding, just a bad self-concious standup comedy rant.

What's wrong with 'quotable quips'? I've never forgotten Barry Norman's accurate and succinct summing up after his review of the live action "The Flintstones" movie (1994): "Yabba Dabba Don't."
But as for Dr Kermode for Film 2010, I simply say "Yabba Dabba Yes Yes, Please Do, You Simply Must!"
"Oh look - a lovely spider! And it's eating a butterfly!"

Like Ross, he's passionate about a few corners of cinema but generally much more interested in the sound of his own voice or coming up with quotable quips. As for knowledgeable, this is someone who actively boasts that he never does any research into the films he writes about because it's not relevant (and that even includes his beloved
Exorcist
) - which is why you get the odd bit of car crash television like him telling Sigourney Weaver what
Alien
is really about while she looks at him with a "I'd better humor him in case he has a gun" expression.

I agree now is Mark's big chance. Particularly as Simon Mayo has left his driver time show leaving the way for Mark Kermode to make his way on to this programme. Please BBC be brave and make the right choice.
