Theres only one similarity between this and love hina and thats, that they both deal with a relationship of some sort, but the similarity ends there, love hina is totally off the wall crazy, while his and her is quite serious, ( not including the crap load of chi-bi of course).

It does have a lot humour, none of the pervy kind like Love Hina has though. LH is not worthy enough to lick this show's boots.
This show is part-comedy, part-emotional drama that explores the complex psyches of troubled individuals as they interact with each other and form connections. Think Evangelion minus the robots and bible symbolism, but with the angst/alienation between characters and the humour cranked up 100.
