What's the deal? This movie came out 10 years ago. Why hasn't a new Tenchi movie been made in the last decade? Surely the movies were profitable. Weren't they?

I'm sure they did fine, only like you said it's been 10 years. And comparet to other animes, it wasn't as well known or popular as DBZ. So I guessed they just stopped.
Not to mention with the original series taking yearly gaps before releasing a new episode. Who knows when something new with Tenchi will come out.
