the whole board and all the threads treat this movie like a character drama by Shakespeare or Strindberg, analyzing the characters' faults, shortcomings, developments, relationships and so on.
Perhaps this is a typical US-American reaction to this movie. Please enlighten me on these - to me - strange reactions. Nowhere did I find terms like "hilarious" or "funny". Really weird
Being from Europe I must say that I watched MTP as a comedy and must admit that I found it neither amusing nor funny; I did not laugh or snicker or smile once. As a comedy this was imo a complete failure. Is this perhaps the reason, why all the threads do not discuss the comedy aspects of this movie but the ones mentioned above? Did everyone feel / reacted like I did and that's the reason why all different kinds of topics are being discussed, but not why it is (not) funny ?
I am not trolling, but really interested in your opinions and attitudes and how you explain the multiple threads on this board dealing with aspects, which to me seem completely secondary and unimportant. Is it a question of cultural background ? Do US-Americans treat their comedies so seriously ? If so, why ? Is the comedy aspect taken for granted and need not be discussed or mentioned (because it has Ben Stiller in it and must therefore be funny) ?
If you read through the threads e.g. of Ron Burgundy, you will find many posters discussing the funniest quotes or scenes - not so here. Why ?
