I'm always perplexed during the scene when Lecter has her driving. In the beginning of the conversation when she is in the car, he says he much prefers seeing her awake(alluding to the fact that he had obviously been in her house) but that it did not "excite him" which I took to mean sexually "excite" him. Then BOOM. The next line is "You have very shapely feet." Whaaaa? Was he just trying to say something weird or creepy as a joke? I know he got her Gucci shoes but it's not like we saw him bust out one of those measurement things from a shoe store and was like "Okaysize 7 and hey! Nice feet!"
Remember the scene in Red Dragon when Benjamin Raspell misses notes on his flute and Lecter winces. That's always what that line does to me.

Hey, Pepper. I usually see you on another board, although there are some cannibals on the television show.
I thought Moore did ok, not great, with the roll.

Let's face it. Moore was shockingly AWFUL in this film. Completely one dimmensional. I'm surprised the Director let her get away with doing Nothing with this role.

I'm not trying to start anything, but clearly, if you liked this film, you have not read the book or you do not understand the beautiful original story. Not only did this movie strip Clarice of the strength she had in the book, it cut out or changed some of the most important charactization moments in the entire series for both Clarice and Hannibal and Mason and Barney. Furthermore, Julianne Moore was not consistent with the accent Clarice is supposed to have which is very important to her character and did not come close to solidifying Clarice's place in the Hannibal Universe.

It's still creepy to have a serial killer compliment your feet. And Hannibal knows that.

To me, he was trying to
not
be creepy, and simply throwing the compliment out there and/or (in his own way) being somewhat playful.
Recall the line immediately before that: "No, it does not
excite
me. (see: gross) It
pleases
me. (see: compliment)"
That's how I thought it was meant.
And it's one of the (many) reasons I enjoy this film more than SOTL.
Wait a minute who am I here?

No, that's weird.

Well then he was just trying to be reassuring. I mean, Miggs was crazy and Hannibal was
really
trying. If I was Clarice, I'd have been like "No? Good looking out H." (through the glass 'nucks)

Right, if I was buying a pair of shoes for my girlfriend (which I would never do. I have know idea what attracts women to their shoes) I would just look at one, or the box. My point wasn't, how did he know her shoe size? My point was, it was just a really odd thing to interject into the conversation.

(alluding to the fact that he had obviously been in her house)
So then why wouldn't he just check one of her shoes to see what size she is? And yes, he's being creepy. He is a serial killer after all.
