something from the movie that i did not get: were sharon (j-lo's character) and larry supposed to be siblings?
If so, isn't it kinda weird how sharon is hispanic and larry is white? even if let's say, the mom is hispanic and the dad is white, wouldn't both sharon and larry turn out somewhere in the middle?

Larry isn't 'white' (the actor is in real life, but the character is not supposed to be). He is merely light-skinned. The dad in the film is light-skinned, for one thing.
Second, we are all parts of several ethnic backgrounds. Larry can have the skin of any ethnicity in his entire relative family.
Third, the dad seemed at least partially Hispanic to me.
The last name was Pogue, which is Scottish according to the posters here.
The dad could easily be half-Scottish half-Hispanic.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

Again, Latino isn't a RACE. It just means people who originated from the 'latin' world. Which, back in the days of colonial imperialism when the New World was being eradicated of natives and populated by european settlers, was Spain, Portugal and to a lesser extent Italy.
I wish I could think of something witty to put here but I can't.

I thought Sharon and Larry didn't look a lot alike, but looking at the dad I can understand why Larry looked' different'. The father could almost pass for white, he likely had some white in him.
And I agree with the poster that said siblings often don't resemble each other. My brother and I look nothing alike.
It's really a mixed bag as to who you end up looking like.

Holy cow. Try educating yourself. Neither Latino nor Hispanic is a race. They are umbrella ethnic identities that include people who are white, people of African descent, indigenous peoples of the Americas, and various combinations of any or all of them. Even look at the U.S. censusit allows for white Hispanics and non-white Hispanics.

I'm gonna have to burst your bubble again, Hispanic is interchangeable with Latino. Neither refer to a race, just to people who speak Spanish or who identify themselves with that culture in some way.
Hispania was the ancient Roman name for Spain, the word and concept derives from that, that's all.
But wait, there's some good news; if you're part Puerto Rican then you've probably got some African and/or Taino as well as European, so that was luckyyou're not totally white.but you are a lil bit white. You white, ohhh you know you white. You whiiiite.

Oh, dear.
The theory of genetics that Mendel discovered and which is always taught in high school biology completely concerns a genetic trait (short and tall, concerning beans) governed by a single gene pair.
Human skin, eye, and hair colour are each governed by multiple gene pairs. That's why there is such a variety of shades in the range of colour of those features. Thus, if both your parents have blue eyes, but you happen to get from them all their darkest genes for eyes, your eyes can end up a lot darker than your blue-eyed parents' eyes. This would be unusual but it's not impossible.

Considering that Sonia Braga (Brazilian) and Victor Argo (Puerto Rican parents) are also Latino or Hispanic, Jeremy Sisto is the odd one out being Italian American. I don't understand why people think they were an Italian American family anyway. Was it referred to specifically in the film? The surname POGUE is Scottish.
I had no problem accepting the actors as a family. Jennifer Lopez and Sonia Braga looked like they could have been mother and daughter. Lopez and Sisto didn't resemble each other but not all siblings look like each other.
NO.
Kids don't "even out"
A black mom and a white dad for example could easily produce children that appeared white, black or mixed. Twins have been born who appear to be different race. Although both are mixed, their features can vary.
