I missed the first few minutes of this (on TV) so I didn't see the original car accident.
As the movie unfolded, I tried to guess the "mystery" of Catch - and having been duped by The Sixth Sense when it first came out, my reaction to Angel Eyes was to assume that Catch was dead - ("You're not going to trick me with that one again, movie creators!!") I assumed that he was either some kind of angel, or that he was stuck in some sort of purgatory and was doing good deeds until he came to terms with his death (or guilt for his family's death) and could then move on (to actual resting in peace.)
I felt like this plot point is still possible - I think I'm right that when he was at the cemetery, we never see the actual gravestones - and I thought there might be a reveal where we see that there were three stones - one for his wife, his son AND himself.
Moreover, the conversations between Catch and his mother-and-law were so vague - they did not discount the idea that Catch was in some limbo state.
Maybe I was just looking too hard for plot twists and not appreciating the movie for what it was. (And I'm in the camp of film buffs who actually thought this movie was pretty good.)

I was mostly just waiting for him to kill her. Very disappointing.

I think Angel Eyes ended on just the right note. The central characters found peace and contentment in each other. There was a sense of closure and moving on. They found something together that escaped them when they were alone. It's quite a lovely and touching movie that doesn't give easy answers but I think all of the right answers are present.
NOW TARZAN MAKE WAR!

Interesting but I think they have Catch doing too many things that a ghost "can't" do.
Remember in Sixth Sense the
dead person never changes his clothes or interacts with a living person except the little boy who can see dead people
