It doesn't even have to be a species thing. People care more about the lives of anyone and anything they're attached to than those trying to kill them.

Well i pity those who feel we are the only thing that matters on this planet how selfish has our species become?
I have 2 dogs and i always think about what i would do if there was an earthquake or tornado. and guess what.
every time i think about it.. i think how to save them or get them on their leashes so i can make sure they dont get hurt. Never do i think . will I try to save the dogs or save myself
the answer to that is obvious I would much rather die trying to save whom I love.. than to live as a coward knowing i could hjave done more.
