Honestly we where not able to do much better back then. However it is very poorly integrated and feels completely unnecessary which increases my and I would think many others issue with it.

The directing is bad, the scene cinematography is bad. The music is terrible. The acting is cheesy.

Before I re-watched it yesterday I read a lot of comments on how poor the f/x were, but that moment was the clincher. Even by 2002 standards that was embarrassingly bad.
