<p dir="auto">I don't think he wanted to commit suicide. He just missed his them badly, and felt lost. In the end. He clearly lives, and returns to Meryl. Dropping his gun, and coat.<br />

<p dir="auto">My thought is that he missed them and very much wanted to see them again.  I never got the feeling that he would consider suicide to do it though.  Or he was just very weak at the time and was possibly actually contemplating it.<br />
Mentally and emotionally, he was in a very bad place at the time, and no he wasn't really 'himself' so to speak.
