I know films are subjective and different people like different things, however, having said that, i personally believe that "The Piano player" is amongst the most underrated Movies on this site (ratings wise). It currently only has a score of 7.3, which in my opinion is surprisingly and somewhat disappointingly low.
My top 5 underrated Movies (all of which have a rating of 7.5 or lower are)-

The Talented Mr Ripley

American Psycho

Session 9

The Piano Player

Alpha Dog
Who else agrees? By the way to see my favourite movies, check out my list at http://www.imdb.com/list/J3JTCxMvvhk/

The fact that "Friends" is rated 9 tells us something about the majority of this site's voters

Always nice to see some love for Session 9. I think it's one of the most perfect horror films ever made and I'll never understand why IMDB users have only given it a 6.7.
I have to get more pudding for this trip to Hawaii.

I think The Piano Teacher is a perfect film. The adaptation from the book (which I'm reading) is remarkable: Haneke took a difficult and complex character whose interior the reader inhabits and made her accessible and externalised her character on screen. The 3 principle leads deliver amazing performances and Huppert is the best actress to play Erika. The film does not shy away from content, which is not watered down to make it more palatable. It's a fearless film with an equaly fearless performance from Huppert. Allowing that some may not like the content the film deserves at least 9.
Of your other top 5 films I've seen The Talented Mr Ripley and American Psycho. The Ripley film should be an 8.5 as it another good adaptation, beautifully shot and again great acting especially from Matt Damon. I think American Psycho is about right, perhaps an 8 being generous. The film delivers partly because Bale is so good but the story is not that satisfactory.
