I watched this film just today due it being highly recommended. One person I read said that it "emotionally destroyed" them. I have to say that I was left incredibly underwhelmed by the film. What exactly did I miss here? To me the plot and characters just weren't intriguing. In the first 25 or so minutes we learn that the piano teacher is obsessive about her profession, is violent, has an anti-social personality and is interested in anti-social sexual activity. The problem is that the film stayed on that note for the remaining 90 minutes. There wasn't any substantial development or escalation, it was just more of the same.
