NO SPOILERS.
Just watching some old WAKING THE DEAD dvds, enjoying THE FALL at the moment.
There is a comment here about how when BOYD goes to Dublin to continue enquiries he is treated with respect by the Irish police officers.
The person who comments says it is unrealistic because the British police have no powers in Ireland.
I am not saying that the Irish republic is not an independant country with its own laws and so on but I think that there is professional respect between police officers (and Firefighters and plumbers and railway employees)of different nations ans unless everybody in the Garda hates the Brits and still thinks it is 1922 then I expect they get along fine in the many joint investigations that must occur due to the huge numbers of Irish people who live in Britain.
I have been to Ireland several times (back in the day when Ireland had money!!! )and know a bit about Irish history.
The name of the Irish police translates as civic/civil guard I think.
The so called republic was based on the myth that the new Ireland was not going to have a class system and the Garda would be with the people and not oppresssive like the police in other countries, and certainly nothing like the British run police force prior to the handover of power.
But I get the impression that the Garda are often treated as a joke by the Irish public, but despite their problems they are a real professional outfit and would be happy to work with other police forces.
