Then when Vincent is on the beach with Joey's son he says "the three of us are going to key West right when your dad gets back." Now do you understand? they left us thinking his prison sentence was probably not that long.

I'm that "Gina". I still talk to Joey. He never even had a child. The movie changed pretty much everything except the names! His dad was retired and in Texas, he was convicted of killing one guy and never shot a cop, the movie's based on the city of Long Beach~the "City by the Sea" but is mostly filmed in a much cheaper spot in canada, there's so much!! Makes me so mad!! The main story is in Esquire magazine or feel free to ask me anything.

Ha Ha, good one jokingkong! My thoughts exactly. I really feel He had that good lawyer and may have not even done 6 years. It was really only the drug dealer in the beginning, a good attorney would get it dropped down. He was high, and the other dude started it. Spider would have been pinned for the other killing, they would have proved it. Killing Spider would not have been to great a deal to law enforcement, I would not think, which alot of what would base on the decision in court, with the judge. They will also look at the great detective his dad was, I know that should not matter, but in our judicial system it would. These are just my opinions on how it played out.

That lame spin off from Friends got cancelled after one season.

I dont think this is obvious, the child on the beach is clearly only 2 or 3 years old, not 6. The idea that he only gets 5/6 years is just de niro's interpretation.
He may or may not have got off with self defence for the first killing, may or may not be found innocent of the cop killing and He also killed the drug dealer at the end, with only his word and his dads that it was self defence.
I think the film should have clarified what happened to him.

Crikey - this is pretty obvious. When we see De Niro and the grandson on the beach at the end they are waiting for Joey to get out of jail. as feargal says, he is serving a six-year term and is about to get out, then they call head to the Keys on a summer holiday.

i think it was implied he would get 5/6 yrs in jail for murdering the drug dealer in self defence..de niro and the grandson will wait for him no doubt
