I'm watching The Weather Channel, and they're ranting about how dangerous this huge, vicious, menacing
(their actual words)
Hurricane Michael is. Of course they say
that about EVERY hurricane, tropical storm or thunder storm.
But in reality, to be safe in a hurricane (or any storm), all you have to do is stay in or near a steel reinforced building like a hotel. If and when things get back, you simply go upstairs and watch. They showed a video from Panama City Beach, and
not a single hotel has been damaged significantly.
That's where Jim Cantore and the other idiot reporters from TWC are. If it's so dangerous, how come none of them has ever been killed?
It's Fake News!
They do it to scare you and generate more ratings and money. That's why only about 6% of the people in this country trust the media, according to a recent poll.
They just reported that "ROOFS RIPPED AWAY, TREES DOWN"! "Oh the humanity!"
Want video proof? Watch this video where the TWC Reporter is struggling valiantly against the dangerous winds of the hurricane. He's even swaying back and forth trying to convince us how bad it is. Then notice the two guys in the background casually strolling by
completely unaffected by the wind.
Fake News!

Also, of course the hotels and other reinforced buildings will be fine, but everything else is more susceptible. Also, what seems to not get as much attention are the smaller areas further inland. A lot more trees there.

I really don't remember too much about the politics of Katrina, other than the whole thing was handled poorly.
And I stand by my statement. If you stay in a building such I described, and exercise common sense precautions, you will be okay.

Well like I said, with Katrina, it was more than just the storm. The handling of it brought the worst devastation. Michael is worse as far as surge, wind, etc. go.
Speaking of that, you may think I am a biased liberal, but I hated Nagin, who was the NOLA mayor and Blanco, who was the governor. Both Democrats. They were useless… just as useless as Bush. Really, a lot of the local Dems annoy me lol. They're either on the conservative side of the party or useless. I liked Mitch Landrieu as mayor and I like Edwards, but as far as handling disasters go, Jindal was better. I hated him for other reasons, but I give credit where it was due.
But be careful saying someone has always been okay doing something. Like some people use that logic when drinking and driving or texting and driving. They think they are the exception and they have always been fine before, but the statistics show these things being the leading causes of accidents.

I agree, but I don't think this will be worse than Katrina. Dangerous yes, but not more so than Katrina.
And yes, the best idea is to evacuate, but you can ride it out in a
multi story steel reinforced building
such as a hotel. That's where Cantore and the other idiots from TWC stay, and none of those bozos have ever been killed.

Cable news and national news is all about profit and sensationalism. Not really a liberal thing or conservative thing. They just suck. I like my WWL (local news channel) and maybe NPR for world stuff. The site, not the radio station. I only listen to the music and talk shows on there. I like getting through the news fast by reading it.
Anyway, yeah, they sensationalize… but this is a dangerous storm. It is worse than Katrina as far as the actual storm goes (Katrina was also mishandled by both liberal and conservative leaders…. It was a clusterfuck, and it didn't help that the levees broke into a city that is basically a bowl.) . It's historical. These are facts.
You may end up safe riding a storm like this out, but it's not a good idea. There are deaths with less major storms.
But yeah, it pisses me off when this **** gets sensationalized, especially when it ends up not being a big issue. It lowers people's confidence in the media. That's what happened with Katrina. Every storm was supposed to be this devastating thing, and many rode them out… went to hurricane parties in the French Quarter and stuff. They always ended up fine. Along with all the other ****, this was a big reason people stayed. And we saw what happened.
