There is a movie. It came with the X-Box edition. It just the first game but as one long cutscene.
It's still called Shenmue: The Movie though.

Not sure if that's a good idea.
There would be some downsides, and there's a possibaity of making it too much like the games. E.g A whole hour of book carrying and box lifting.
But I think they should at least work on the story, focus on Ryo wanting revenge on Lan-di for the death of his father.

there should be but instead of it being about ryo it should be about delin, the delightful wharf worker and his escapades as a fish out of water trying to make it in the big city while searching for the "one".

I would love to see a Shenmue movie but ill be a bit worried they would ruin the beauty of it.

I've had some ideas for a movie (0r series of films).
Told from a 3rd person POV, to branch the story.
Part 1: Japness with subtitles (some chinese dialogue)
pretty much the jist of the first game
Part 2: Chinese (well let's face it what would you do try to teach everyone in hong kong Japanese or get a japanese actor to learn Chinese.)
Most of the second game including Chi on the ship in the prologue.
Well it ends with him leaving for gulin and add a scene with Lan-Di at the end.
Part 3: Gulin and whatever from shenmue 3 (if it does happen) in can fit in the other 2 (or 1) acts.
Oh and ren has to come back, i like the idea of him reappearing on some kind of treasure hunt.

Well, its not exactly a Shenmue movie, but there is this great spoof, about Shenmue, called "Shenmue The Gang Edition", and "Shenmue 2: the Gang Edtion". You can download them off of http://planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo . They are funny as hell, and you guys should check em out.

I think there should be an asian release of this movie, i would definately love to see a live action version of this game.

would prefer another game, wouldn't want to find out important plot developments from a movie.
But they could make a movie not including Ryo examples:
Mai and Goro go to Tokyo - come on throw in some random attacks by secret agent school girls and you got the potential for a true classic.
Nozomi in Canada - erm nothing much else to this maybe a gratuitous shower scene, but since ryo ain't there no loving.
mimi goes mental - the cat eats some radioactive squid and grows to over 200 feet high and terrorises dobuita.
Fuku-san and Ine-san - a young martial artist and an elderly house keeper, even though they new the locals would never understand they couldn't keep there hands off each other any longer.
Kindegarden girl - yes she finally got to become a kindgarden teacher, but tragedy strikes as one day the nursey become the battle ground between the ci you men and the police. Noriko is the only survivor and she swears revenge.
