I watched this yesterday and I couldn't understand why this was given an 18 rating, it felt more like a 15 anyone know why?

I doubt it. A movie with a haunted ocean liner, cursing, people getting savagely killed left and right, and a daunting atmosphere deserves an R rating.

The opening scene is really the sole reason this got slapped with an 18 rating; although some say the films overall nasty tone and high body count also contributed to its rating.

The entire first scene is worthy of an 18 rating isn't it? The general tone is a bit OTT aswell (i.e poisoning and murdering the entire ship crew like that).
